ABOUT THE PROJECT
I was honored when Ethiopian Gelila Bekele, humanitarian and supermodel, asked me to help her accomplish her dream: to shoot a film about young sisters and their daily walk in search of drinking water and to photograph a book of the everyday life of communities in one of the worlds most diverse countries. This was a dream project for me as well! Gelila and I spent two months filming and photographing in urban and rural villages across Ethiopia. We stayed with families, sharing meals and sleeping on animal skins. Gelila speaks the language (and I made a whole-hearted attempt) and everyone was extremely welcoming to Gelila as one of their own and to me, a ferenji (foreigner).
I hope you enjoy a selection of images on the following pages. Learn more about Guzo the book and contact me for fine-art prints.
