PROJECT
I feel it's important to be a part of my community and much of my work focuses on women's issues so it was a perfect fit when The Women’s Foundation of Colorado commissioned me to make a video for their annual luncheon and fundraiser. They needed a video that motivated donors and potential donors to write a check. I decided to break the mold of luncheon videos: CEOs talking about the work they do filled with facts, graphs and stats - and instead, touch viewers emotionally. Make viewers connect - care - donate.
APPROACH
For the 2010 video I focused on the personal stories and struggles of real girls and women and how their life was turned around by WFCO by creating mini-documentaries on four subjects. I combined both still photography and video so the WFCO could use the photographs in their print and web material as well. In 2011 I wanted to change things up. It’s been a hard economic year so I wanted viewers to feel good while watching the video and inspired to donate. I filmed and interviewed women and girls affiliated with the WFCO and asked them to tell viewers why it’s important to believe and invest in women and girls why they should donate to the WFCO. Both videos promoted the mission of believing and investing in Colorado’s Women and Girls. The videos began with credits per request of the client which give audience time to re-direct their attention from their lunch to the screen. Both videos ended with a clear call to action to donate.
RESULT
FUNDRAISING MILESTONES! The 2011 WFCO luncheon raised more than $850,000! After a few seconds the clinking of silverware silenced. People cried, sighed and smiled. The audience was asked to donate and they delivered.
