about dana

“It seems that all of the people in Dana’s photographs are her friends.”
– Chris Johns, Editor in Chief, National Geographic Magazine

For more than a decade, I have worked as a photographer and multimedia/video producer dedicated to making a difference in our local and global community. I combine my Bachelors in Cultural Studies, Masters in Visual Communications and career in photojournalism with a thirst for adventure and passion for storytelling to produce compelling and intimate images and multimedia narratives for my commercial, editorial and humanitarian aid clients.
I enjoy a collaborative approach and have a team of expert editors, designers and composers that I work with when the project requires. Equally adept at helming a commercial American lifestyle shoot, documenting international humanitarian issues or producing videos for a live event, my work is colorful and soulful and creates relationships and reveals inner lives. Before even picking up my camera, I immerse myself in the project – wanting to understand what it’s like to walk in my subjects’ shoes. For me, it's about connecting with people.
I have received prestigious honors in photography and multimedia storytelling, including Photographer of the Year International awards, a prestigious internship at National Geographic Magazine, runner up for Pulitzer Prize Gold in Public Service, Atlanta Photojournalism Photo Contest, Society for News and Design and runner up for the Anthropographia Human Rights and Multimedia Award, Magnum's Inge Morath Award, Open Society Institute Audience Engagement Award and The Aftermath Project. My work has been exhibited internationally at film and photo festivals and galleries. I often present to organizations and universities and offer classes at Boulder Digital Arts. I am a 2011 Blue Earth Alliance Photographer and represented by Getty Images with work syndicated by Reportage-by-Getty Images.
Raised in upstate New York, I am based in Boulder, Colorado. I am fluent in English and Spanish, and can exchange greetings, order a beer and negotiate taxi prices in several African languages.
